GVC10-04 Survey Results and Website Plan
95 students participated in our survey
Our first question was ‘Which topic(s) would you like to see as a part of our project?’ The highest percentage answer was endangered animals with 42%. Tied with 41% are: world peace, oceans, sports, and future. With 39% is nature. With 35% is technology. With 33% is environment. With 32% is entertainment. Sorry to say but the lowest scores are; global warming with 27%, cultures with 23%, other with 19%, and planet in peril with only 14%.
The 2nd question was ‘check the boxes below for ideas that you would like to include in our project?’ The Highest percentage answer was; online quizzes and games with 60%. 2nd was comics with 58%. 3rd with 54% was video recordings. 4th with 51% was animations. 5th with 48% was scratch games. 6th was jokes with 47%. Sorry to say but the lowest percentages are; cartoons with 41%, recycled crafts with 39%, word search with 37%, podcast with 36%, puzzles with 35%, crosswords with 33%, recipes with 32%, solving problems page with 17%, and other with 11%.
The 3rd question was ‘do you like the idea of creating an online multimedia magazine?’ 91% of the students answered yes and 9% answered no.
The 4th question was ‘do you like the title of the art of living for our project?’ 63% answered yes and 37% answered no.
Some of the responses for question 5 (what are some other ideas that you have for our project?) are… …Making art projects and selling them for money to donate to world hunger…cleaning a park.
Some of the responses for question 6 (What ideas do you have for the HELPING FOCUS part of our project?) are…all possible ways of helping old people/destitute/orphans/educating/help during disaster/nursing/doctoring/sharing/saving animals/being a good neighbor/live and let live…by making people aware of their duties and how much they are sincerely doing.
Some of the responses for question 7 (What are your ideas on how we can collaborate on this project?) are; make a glog… work in groups of two or three…each person comes up with one idea and then we combine all our ideas into one huge idea.

Team Plan: The Art of Living
In exploring the Art of Living theme, our students could be encouraged to make connections between the topics to demonstrate how they are different facets of the 'Art of Living' - obvious examples would be the link between conservation efforts in the oceans and endangered species, or efforts to encourage world peace through international sporting events.
Possible time line:
November:
Skill building on DTP (MS Publisher), using Oceans as a theme - possible activities include: brochure layout for fantastic facts about oceans, photo-novel style/comic book layout
Skill building on Internet Searches and Presentations (using MS PowerPoint), using Sports as a theme - possible activities include: present original research on an unusual Olympic sport
December:
Skill building on Modelling (MS Excel), using Future as a theme - using a spreadsheet to make predictions - incorporating charts into word-processed reports on future trends (contrived, I know...)
Skill building on Sequencing Instructions (making/testing models in Scratch) using Peace as a theme - quizzes, animated scenarios, simple games
January
Skill building on Audio Processing (Audacity - to be imported into Scratch animations) , using endangered animals as a theme

We have Peace, Enviroment, cultures and some magazine things. I think enviroment is the best idea because my idea was about natures.
I don't think there is something that we could do much with peace,
Cultures, I've thought that is good idea. But I realized that there are so many countries in this earth and we can't have all the countries' culture,maybe we could do but then we won't able to focus others.
So I think enviroment is the best idea.

David, don't you think that we need to raise awareness about how much the planet is in peril??? we dump trash into the ocean. we cause global warming. we hunt down animals, kill them, then only take their skin!!!!!!! sometimes I wish I wasn't a human. I have 2 ideas
1) I think we can a video or record our voices like people who we want to be when we grow up.
Like I want to be a teacher and Meg wants to be a Marine Biologist. So we can make like an interview of WHO WE WANT TO BE or WHO DOES IT FEEL TO BE A (teacher, marine biologist (etc)).
2) We can make a Multimedia Magazine based on Culture, Environment, and Peace. We can all be divided into groups and each group works on either PEACE, CULTURE, or ENVIRONMENT.
Please Reply and choose one Idea that you like best. That we can ALL agree on.

Art of living sounds like a good idea, especially with all the topics that can go under it. I'm for the idea- but there are some problems- with so many topics, people could get distracted or carried away. But if we focus and not make it too complicated, it would be a winning topic!

Hey! That's exactly what I had in mind. We have to give HELPING FOCUS , COLLABORATIVE EFFORT and GREAT CONTENT equal importance. Shall we call it ART OF LIVING which can include many sub-topics. Environment can come under it. We can have a magazine section too or the entire format can be in the form of a magazine and we can bring in peace too which is an essential part of good living.
Please give it a thought. I talked to my kids this morning. Thay are for it.

About 20 percent of Alaska's 650,000 residents are Native or of Native descent, but there was a time when their cultures dominated this vast land. As the state continues to grow, Alaska's Natives are finding it more important than ever to celebrate their heritage and educate residents and visitors about Alaska's first peoples.
In general, there are three groups of Alaska Natives -- Indian, Eskimo and Aleut. The terms "Inuit" and "Native American" are sometimes used in place of "Eskimo" and"Indian" in an effort to be politically correct, but in Alaska, Eskimo and Indian are not considered derogatory terms. In fact, Eskimos pride themselves on their heritage.
Within the three categories, Native culture is further divided into five cultures based on similarities in tradition, language and proximity.

"Indian" was the term bestowed on this race by Columbus, and is DEFINETLY what I prefer.

Hi guys! In ICT We just viewed a short film. It was like, these people interviewed (short interviews) other people about their views on the circus. There were some people that actually worked for the circus and just some people who had been to the circus. But they actually didn't show the people or say their names, instead of showing the people they had animations.
I think that idea is awesome!!! We could have short interviews with people about global warming or maybe something else like it. Then each school could be, say if we had 9 short interviews each school could have three to animate themselves. So then we could lots of different kinds of animation. But at the end we could merge them together to get one feature.
Please give me your ideas!!!!!!!

I think we should do a Website about the Enviroment because i personaly think that the Enviroment is the 2nd most important thing after your family (#1 most important thing). Also because there is a lot of Pollution and the pollution is destroying the Enviroment. Also Cars, Buses, Trains, (ect). Forest fires, and more things.
But the number 1 thing that is destroying the world is GLOBAL WARNING.
Ice Caps are melting and the water lever is rising and flooding coasts. Like it can flood Miami, Florida, California, (etc).
In Enviroment we can also do things about Animals because some animals like Pandas, Crested Newts, and Gorillas. (Mr.Hellam's idea for the Gorillas and Crested Newts).
We can also write about Demestic Animals. Dogs, Cats, Hamters, and more.
I think i wrote to much. I will stop here.

I like this. Global warming is bad. I think that we should write about ALL the environment (including global warming) . Its not just global warming that's rotting the planet, poachers, pollution, deforestation, selling wild animals on the Black Market, smuggling animals in from some exotic places, people shooting animals to protect their livestock, man I could go on and on and on but I think we could really make a difference here.

If you want to do peace, we could decorate the magazine very brightly with lots of peace signs and have articles about world peace and stuff. Barack Obama (president of USA!!!) Came to Prague and made a speech and I saw him!!! It was about world peace and it was very inspiring. Also for the peace theme, we could put inspiring quotes about peace in there. It could be a very successful theme, but it does have some flaws- not too many jokes and advice topics would be able to follow that theme. Let me know what you think!

We've been discussing the type of project we would like to do. The students at Riverside are keen to work on a multimedia magazine project.
We'd particularly like to work on some multimedia (video and audio) and create interactive stuff with Scratch.
As far as the project topic goes, we're happy to work with whatever the consensus is, but my students will respond to your suggestions here.

Team Plan: The Art of Living
In exploring the Art of Living theme, our students could be encouraged to make connections between the topics to demonstrate how they are different facets of the 'Art of Living' - obvious examples would be the link between conservation efforts in the oceans and endangered species, or efforts to encourage world peace through international sporting events.

We have Peace, Enviroment, cultures and some magazine things. I think enviroment is the best idea because my idea was about natures.
I don't think there is something that we could do much with peace,
Cultures, I've thought that is good idea. But I realized that there are so many countries in this earth and we can't have all the countries' culture,maybe we could do but then we won't able to focus others.

David, don't you think that we need to raise awareness about how much the planet is in peril??? we dump trash into the ocean. we cause global warming. we hunt down animals, kill them, then only take their skin!!!!!!! sometimes I wish I wasn't a human. I have 2 ideas
1) I think we can a video or record our voices like people who we want to be when we grow up.
Like I want to be a teacher and Meg wants to be a Marine Biologist. So we can make like an interview of WHO WE WANT TO BE or WHO DOES IT FEEL TO BE A (teacher, marine biologist (etc)).
2) We can make a Multimedia Magazine based on Culture, Environment, and Peace. We can all be divided into groups and each group works on either PEACE, CULTURE, or ENVIRONMENT.

Art of living sounds like a good idea, especially with all the topics that can go under it. I'm for the idea- but there are some problems- with so many topics, people could get distracted or carried away. But if we focus and not make it too complicated, it would be a winning topic!

Hey! That's exactly what I had in mind. We have to give HELPING FOCUS , COLLABORATIVE EFFORT and GREAT CONTENT equal importance. Shall we call it ART OF LIVING which can include many sub-topics. Environment can come under it. We can have a magazine section too or the entire format can be in the form of a magazine and we can bring in peace too which is an essential part of good living.

"Indian" was the term bestowed on this race by Columbus, and is DEFINETLY what I prefer.

Hi guys! In ICT We just viewed a short film. It was like, these people interviewed (short interviews) other people about their views on the circus. There were some people that actually worked for the circus and just some people who had been to the circus. But they actually didn't show the people or say their names, instead of showing the people they had animations.
I think that idea is awesome!!! We could have short interviews with people about global warming or maybe something else like it. Then each school could be, say if we had 9 short interviews each school could have three to animate themselves. So then we could lots of different kinds of animation. But at the end we could merge them together to get one feature.
Please give me your ideas!!!!!!!

Maybe in our magazine we could include some animations about environment or if we do something about arts and crafts we could do a demo video.
Anyway I don't care all too much what it is all about, but I would really like for it to be like a virtual magazine thing.

My class was thinking about doing like a online magazine sort of thing. I think its a great idea 'cause then we include some different stuff such as...

3. World peace
4. Arts & crafts

I think we should do a Website about the Enviroment because i personaly think that the Enviroment is the 2nd most important thing after your family (#1 most important thing). Also because there is a lot of Pollution and the pollution is destroying the Enviroment. Also Cars, Buses, Trains, (ect). Forest fires, and more things.
But the number 1 thing that is destroying the world is GLOBAL WARNING.
Ice Caps are melting and the water lever is rising and flooding coasts. Like it can flood Miami, Florida, California, (etc).
In Enviroment we can also do things about Animals because some animals like Pandas, Crested Newts, and Gorillas. (Mr.Hellam's idea for the Gorillas and Crested Newts).
We can also write about Demestic Animals. Dogs, Cats, Hamters, and more.
I think i wrote to much. I will stop here.

I like this. Global warming is bad. I think that we should write about ALL the environment (including global warming) . Its not just global warming that's rotting the planet, poachers, pollution, deforestation, selling wild animals on the Black Market, smuggling animals in from some exotic places, people shooting animals to protect their livestock, man I could go on and on and on but I think we could really make a difference here.

If you want to do peace, we could decorate the magazine very brightly with lots of peace signs and have articles about world peace and stuff. Barack Obama (president of USA!!!) Came to Prague and made a speech and I saw him!!! It was about world peace and it was very inspiring. Also for the peace theme, we could put inspiring quotes about peace in there. It could be a very successful theme, but it does have some flaws- not too many jokes and advice topics would be able to follow that theme. Let me know what you think!

Any of the three themes could fit well with what we would like to do:
For example:
Environment
o video interviews of students talking about their concerns about the environment
o Simulation games on environmental issues - managing a wildlife reserve, solving a problem, clearing an oil slick
Peace
o Vox Pop - ask students "What does it mean to be a peacemaker?" and video their responses
o Adventure game - based on resolving conflicts between other characters encountered
Culture
o Cultural tapestry - slideshow of arts and crafts
o Multimedia adventure based on popular folk tales from different cultures
OK - there's a couple of ideas, any other suggestions or refinements? Which do you think we could do best at?

We've been discussing the type of project we would like to do. The students at Riverside are keen to work on a multimedia magazine project.
We'd particularly like to work on some multimedia (video and audio) and create interactive stuff with Scratch.
As far as the project topic goes, we're happy to work with whatever the consensus is, but my students will respond to your suggestions here.
